What is clinical meditation?
Clinical meditation at HARP involves guided mindfulness practices tailored to the unique needs of the recovery journey. Our sessions focus on “Vipassana” (insight) and breath-centered awareness, helping to quiet the “default mode network” of the brain—the area often responsible for overthinking and negative self-talk. Led by experienced facilitators, these practices empower you to observe your internal state without judgment, providing a powerful foundation for emotional stability.
How does it support addiction recovery?
Extensive research shows that regular meditation can physically alter the brain’s structure, strengthening the prefrontal cortex—the area responsible for impulse control and decision-making. By practicing mindfulness, guests learn to create a “gap” between a craving and an action. This newfound ability to pause and breathe allows for healthier choices, reduces the intensity of anxiety, and helps heal the neurological pathways damaged by long-term substance use.

Meditation is woven into your daily rhythm at HARP, with sessions available every morning and evening to anchor your recovery day. Whether practiced in our private, light-filled meditation halls or outdoors overlooking the tranquil Dandenong Ranges, each session is designed to complement your clinical therapy. Your practitioners will provide you with a variety of techniques—from body scans to loving-kindness meditations—ensuring you leave with a personal “toolkit” for maintaining mental peace long after you return home.
