How we treat prescription drug addiction?

At HARP Private Rehab, we can provide you with tailored prescription drug addiction treatment to overcome your addiction, no matter how challenging that may feel. Our drug addiction rehab approach is completely non-judgmental and pragmatic; we will support you through a safe detox, provide you with the tools needed to manage withdrawal symptoms and address the underlying root causes. We treat dependency to all medication types.

What is prescription drug addiction?

Prescription drug abuse occurs when an individual relies on prescription medication to an excessive degree. Dependency on prescription drugs often begins with the legitimate medical use of a drug but can quickly spiral out of control.

Regardless of the drug, people can become susceptible to dependency when they are suffering and in pain. Both heroin and ibuprofen can be used as painkillers. However, the stigma of addiction is much more attached to illegal substances than prescription drugs, so the latter can often go unnoticed. There is also the hard truth that certain substances, such as opioids and benzodiazepines, are far more addictive than others. These drugs create a strong physical reaction within our body which can quickly sow the seeds for dependency.

The danger is that when we rely on an external substance to numb ourselves from our feelings and/or physical pain, it weakens the part of our brain that controls self-regulation. In its place, we become dependent on a substance to regulate our emotions, impulses and pain tolerance. A destructive cycle of addiction can quickly emerge because we become more and more dependent on an external substance to feel physically and emotionally pain-free.

Often, the only way to overcome this pattern is to undergo a medical detox to manage the physical withdrawal symptoms and to work with mental health professionals to manage the psychological withdrawal. Through our combination of medical, psychological and personal care, we are proud to be the only clinic in the world that addresses co-occurring conditions and every possible root-cause of prescription drug addiction. In so doing, we can help you recover in a matter of weeks, rather than years or months.

What are the signs?

Prescription drug dependency has become one of the most prolific substance abuse issues worldwide, yet it is much harder to spot because we don’t typically associate drug abuse with a prescription or over-the-counter medicine. Symptoms of prescription drug addiction vary depending on whether it’s an opioid, a sedative or a stimulant but include:

  • Continuing to use the medication despite a wish to stop.
  • Requesting early refills or continually losing prescriptions so that your doctor needs to write more.
  • An increasing dosage needed for pain relief.
  • Withdrawal symptoms such as sweating, anxiety, insomnia, vomiting, flu-like symptoms, or muscle pain when you go without the medication.
  • Isolating yourself from friends or loved ones.
  • Excessive mood swings or hostility.
  • Disrupted sleep (too much or too little).
  • Poor decision-making.

If these signs sound familiar, we can help guide you toward recovery.

Our approach considers the whole person: mind, body and soul

We do not adopt a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. Instead, we adapt each programme to each client’s unique set of needs. While our approach prioritises cutting-edge modalities and holistic care, those unique needs ultimately guide our work together.

At the heart of our prescription drug treatment is guiding you through a safe withdrawal process, supported by medication-assisted therapies to alleviate withdrawal symptoms where needed. However, our 360-degree treatment approach goes beyond simply managing withdrawal symptoms. Central to this approach is rigorous testing to uncover why you have developed a dependency and what you can do to put an end to it. Using this information, we design your bespoke treatment path, combining cutting-edge therapies such as biofeedback, bioresonance, IV-infusions, nutritional therapy, and sleep therapies to address each issue and restore your health.

In addition to addressing the root causes of your addiction, we also treat any effects, from neurological to physical damage, that often result from substance use. These are treated alongside the deeper factors that contribute to addiction. Our approach combines intensive psychotherapy, biochemical restoration, and complementary therapies, all designed to reduce stress and support your recovery.
