Methamphetamines are a powerful and destructive force that often leads individuals down a dark path, getting a hold of their lives and quickly spiralling them into dependency and chaos. This is exactly what happened to a former Hills & Ranges Private (HARP) client, whom we’ll call John.
The euphoric highs that the ice drug gave him were soon overshadowed by a relentless grip on his life that left him feeling trapped and hopeless. However, he discovered the strength and found the help he needed to get his life back and look forward to a brighter future. In this article, we’ll explore the possibility of recovery for someone badly struggling with addiction through the experience of John.
Descent Into Methamphetamine Addiction
Most stories that started the descent into meth addiction begin with unassuming reasons: curiosity, peer pressure, coping with stress, etc. The initial appeal was undeniable, with the drug giving you heightened energy, better focus, and an overwhelming sense of euphoria. It’s not an exaggeration to say that one’s first time using methamphetamines will make them feel like they’re on top of the world.
It may have been similar for John. As the months passed, when the initial high began to fade, he still sought more potent doses. The signs of dependency became increasingly apparent to the point that John, amidst the euphoria he was getting from meth, felt something was very wrong. “Prior to coming to HARP, I had a lot of issues with myself. I was battling addiction, I was battling with trauma, and I couldn’t get out of that circle. I wasn’t present for the family. I was absent for the reason of using.” The impact of methamphetamines on affected family and friends was progressively becoming harder to bear.
Even though John was more affluent than most people, methamphetamines still took a toll on his finances. “I had a business partner. We had invested in a workshop; I lost the business.” This is one of the situations that showed him he had already descended deep into addiction and was still falling. “I felt like there’s nothing that was going to bring me back. I looked at the mirror and just hated who I was.”
Things even worsened when John could not find anything to help him get out. A dark idea came to him during one moment of despair and weakness. “I thought suicide was the answer. I had taken a certain amount of some prescription medication. I was down and out.” However, he survived. “I tried to commit suicide last night. It didn’t work. I thought I’d get to the other side.”
The Turning Point
The failed suicide attempt started a chain reaction that gave him another shot at life. “I remember walking downstairs to my partner and I said, ‘I give up. I’m done.’” This surrender urged John’s wife to help him look for someone who could help, and she succeeded. “My wife sent me a link to Hills & Ranges Private.”
John, willing to try anything, took his wife’s recommendation and called us. Things weren’t as buttery smooth as expected, though. Because John hadn’t slept and eaten properly for a couple of days, he was not in the condition to fly to the location. “The next morning, when I was supposed to fly to Melbourne, I asked my wife to message Ed [from HARP] and let him know that I’m not fit to fly.” Understandably, he didn’t want to go to the airport in his situation.
Fortunately, that wasn’t a problem for HARP. Because we take rehab and drug abuse confidentiality seriously, our concierge offers a private jet flight as part of our discretion efforts. “I took that and ran with it,” John said, not knowing at the time that it was the first true step to overcoming his addiction.
The Recovery Journey
“They [Ed and Racquel from HARP] got to know me a little bit more, made me feel welcome, and told me everything’s going to be all right and that the program is going to help and they were there to help.” The assuring conversation with the people from Hills & Ranges Private instilled confidence in John, convincing him that he was on the right path.
His first impression was also positive. “I remember coming up the driveway to a massive house and thought this is the real deal.”
We at HARP pride ourselves on offering exclusive and luxurious facilities you can maximize during your recovery. Each of our three 5-star facilities is completely private, surrounded by nature, and offers individualised treatment in a serene, encouraging environment.
“I got taken upstairs to my new room, which was awesome. I had my own desk, I had my own balcony, and I also had my own ensuite, which is good. I’m sort of a private guy. I like to have my own space. I felt at home once I got up to that room. That was my safe place.”
With an unparalleled staff-to-client ratio and 5-star amenities, we ensure that each client is given all the attention and care needed while making them feel comfortable during their stay.
Our patented 5i curriculum offers the most effective treatments for methamphetamine misuse. This includes behavioural therapies, individual counselling, peer group support, and non-drug-related activities like music and equine therapies. This holistic treatment approach allowed us to help John and our other clients understand the root of their behaviour.
“In some way or another, they’ve managed to teach me how the brain works. I could understand why I was making bad decisions from years ago. I was doomed because I didn’t have this knowledge. I didn’t understand how you could break all the bad programming that’s been done over the years. I needed this years ago,” John delightfully recalled.
We conduct treatment at HARP, so you have to do rehab only once, and you’re set to recover with our lifetime support. Now that John had completed a 28-day program, he was looking forward to returning to his daily life. “I am really excited to go back home and implement all the knowledge I’ve gained. I have kids that need nurturing, which now I can cater to their needs.”
