What is Shiatsu therapy?

Shiatsu is a holistic bodywork therapy that uses comfortable pressure from the thumbs, palms, and elbows to balance the body’s energy pathways. At HARP, our Zen Shiatsu approach also includes gentle stretching and structural alignment. Unlike traditional massage, Shiatsu is typically performed over loose, comfortable clothing and focuses on restoring the flow of energy to support organ function and mental clarity. It is a deeply grounding experience that helps guests reconnect with their physical selves.

How does it support recovery?

For those in recovery, the body often carries a high “allostatic load” (chronic stress). Shiatsu therapy helps lower this load by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system, which reduces anxiety and improves sleep quality. It is particularly effective for managing the physical aches, digestive issues, and emotional fluctuations that can occur during detoxification. By clearing energetic blockages, Shiatsu empowers the body to process emotions more fluidly and reduces the psychological weight of cravings.

How is it integrated into my programme?

Shiatsu sessions are carefully woven into your bespoke treatment plan, often serving as a bridge between clinical psychotherapy and physical restoration. Conducted in our private, tranquil wellness suites, these sessions are tailored to your energy levels on any given day. Your Shiatsu therapist works in tandem with your clinical team, ensuring that this somatic work supports your overall neurological and emotional healing milestones.
