What is therapeutic breathwork?
Therapeutic breathwork is a practice that involves conscious, intentional breathing patterns to influence a person’s mental, emotional, and physical state. At HARP, our breathwork sessions are facilitated by experienced practitioners who guide you through techniques designed to oxygenate the body and quiet the “busy” mind. It is a highly effective tool for navigating the complexities of early-stage recovery and building long-term resilience.
How does it support recovery?
Breathwork is particularly helpful for individuals dealing with trauma and addiction because it directly impacts the vagus nerve, which helps switch the body from a “fight-or-flight” state to a “rest-and-digest” state. It allows for a safe, somatic release of anxiety, anger, and grief without the need for traditional talk therapy. By practicing these techniques, guests develop a reliable, internal tool that can be used anytime to stabilize their emotions and resist impulsive urges.
How is breathwork included in my stay?
Breathwork is integrated into your weekly wellness schedule as both individual and group sessions. Whether conducted in our serene private studios or amidst the natural beauty of the Dandenong Ranges, each session is adapted to your comfort level and current emotional capacity. Your breathwork therapist works closely with your clinical lead to ensure the techniques used are perfectly aligned with your broader treatment goals.
